Our tour starts at Jernbanetorget in the center of Oslo, where we take private transport up to Mørkgonga nature park, and the kingdom of Gygra! Gygra is a famous figure in the local folktales. She lived in Gyrihaugen, and was the sister of the troll, or, in Norse mythology, the designation of a jotun woman. Today, there are several such petrified figures in the woods, and it has been debated which of them is the real Gygra. But we think there is a special one that has the right shape, almost five meters high it is quite inaccessible, and very well hidden in the woods. There are many local legends about Krokskogen.
We will follow the trail around and up, but for those who want a real challenge we recommend climbing up through the ravine! It is really worth the effort, whether you climb or just hike up the hill, it's a very dramatic and Instagram-friendly experience! At the top of the ravine far, far beyond you will see the Steinsfjord and Ringerike.
There is a lot of Viking history in this area, and the world's only intact Viking helmet can be found on in Ringerike. Here we will have a rest and enjoy the views and fresh forest air, sharing hot coffee and snacks. In summer months sunset takes place around 10 pm, and if the weather will be good, the sky colors are unbelievably beautiful. After enjoying this gorgeous nature, we will walk back down, and get back to Jernbanetorget.
